Sunset views from Phnom Bakheng temple, one of Angkor's oldest temples

Image
Sunset at Phnom Bakheng One of the oldest temples in Angkor, Phnom Bakheng temple is on a hill and involves a little bit of climb to reach there.  Built in the 9th century the Phnom Bakheng temple is currently not in a great condition, parts are being restored and you can make out how nice it must have been in it's prime.  They were allowing only a certain number of people on top of the temple due to it's fragile  condition.   I did not want to miss this temple since it seems extremely popular for  sunset views.  On the way up I could catch a glimpse of the Angkor wat temple complex amidst the jungles. T he temple is unique in it's own way, and because it is at an elevation, the aerial overall view was nice. This was the last temple on our agenda on day ...

Neak Pean, the picturesque island temple at Angkor, Cambodia

Image
Neak Pean, Angkor  We were just about getting over the feeling of exhilaration after seeing the beautiful Ta Som temple that we found ourselves in front of the Neak Pean temple....And what a pretty little temple it is! Built during the reign of King Jayavarman, Neak Pean is very different from Ta Som, and yet so uniquely beautiful.  This is what is so special about Angkor, each temple is different! Neak Pean is even more so... what makes it even more unique is the picturesque.surroundings. Adding to the uniqueness is it's location. Standing on a circular island on an artificial island with water body and greenery around it, this temple has a magical and peaceful feel about it.  You can't enter the temple ...so these pictures are of the outside, but it is mostly the external str...

Sunset at Pre Rup Angkor Cambodia

Image
The first temple we saw in Siem Reap was the Pre Rup temple complex. After reaching Siem Reap in the late afternoon we rushed to buy our three day pass that would enable us to see as many temples as we could in the three days. We only had 3 days at Siem Reap, and wanted to make the most of our time there. With some daylight hours still there, we decided to catch the sunset at Pre Rup temple. We reached just in time to see the temple in the daylight hours, and catch the sunset as well. Here are some pictures of the Pre Rup temple and the sunset. It was a wonderful experience, and we got a taste of what is to come in the next three days! Finally a dream coming true:)   If you liked this post, you may like the following posts as well: Angkor Wat, Cambodia; Ancient, beautiful and one of the largest temple complexes in the world!
